August 2011

Spectrum is one of the community partners for the government's new "Autism Services and Supports Program". Click here to find out more about this program.

We are pleased to announce the addition of a part time Senior Therapist in the Kingston and Belleville regions. This addition is in response to feedback received from the community. We will be offering ABA supervison and consultation as well as workshops.

May 2011:

Kristen Copeland and Lynne Thibodeau (pictured right) attended ABA International 37th Annual Conference in May. This professional conference features the latest developments in the science of ABA.

December 2010:

Unity for Autism

Once again, our organization and community is fortunate to be named as a recipient for 2010 of funding from Unity for Autism, www.unityforautism.ca. "We are a completely volunteer-based foundation, ensuring that 99% of all monies raised are dispersed to centers of excellence providing programs and support to individuals with autism." Funding is for the "Unity for Autism After School Learning Program", a school-age program to assist children and teens to build functional skills. Please check back to our Programs section in the new year for details on this new program.

August 2010:

Spectrum was thrilled to be the recipient of all proceeds raised at a Zumba Party held at the Cyrville Community Centre. Thank you to Shannon Kaya for organizing this event for us.

Summer 2010:

Spectrum Intervention Group is happy to be able to announce that thanks to funding from Unity for Autism http://www.unityforautism.ca/ and from the Community Foundation of Ottawa http://www.cfo-fco.ca/ , we are able to offer part of our summer program for 2010 for children with ASD, at Happy Trails Farm and Recreation program http://www.happy-trails.ca/ , an organization with much experience in providing services to kids with Autism and other special needs. Happy Trails provides a personalized riding program and farm experience, it is located on Leitrim Road in Carlsbad Springs, about 30 minutes from our centre. We are very grateful to both, Unity For Autism and the Community Foundation of Ottawa, as they have been very generous and supported our organization over the years. June 2010:
We were thrilled to announce that our Executive and Clinical Director Lynne Thibodeau was a finalist for People Magazine/Major League Baseball's "All-Stars Among Us Campaign". Lynne has been working to give children and teens with autism a voice for over 12 years.

April 2010: Spectrum is pleased to be part of Project PACE. 
Project PACE is a collaborative parent training initiaitve involving the following local agencies: Autism Ontario: Ottawa Chapter, Autism Ontario: Ottawa Chapter, Realize Community Potential Program (funded by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services), Spectrum Intervention Group, The Portia Learning Centre, Coordinated Access and Service Coordination.

2010: The Community Foundation of Ottawa, www.communityfoundationottawa.ca has once again been very generous in support of our programs. We are very grateful for the funding provided for many of our summer programs over the years, which has allowed us to greatly reduce the fees to families.

2009: Once again,  Spectrum Intervention Group is delighted to have been chosen as a recipient by Unity for Autism (www.unityforautism.ca).  “A charitable foundation uniting families affected by autism with heroes across our nation.”  A sincere thanks to Kathy Deschenes and all the dedicated volunteers who generously donate their time to such a worthwhile organization and cause.

2008: A world of thanks to;

  • Stonebridge Golf Course and Monarch Corporation for their generosity, the donation of one half the funds from their recent golf tournament is much appreciated.
  • Ottawa International Airport Authority/Project Clear Skies for their generosity in supporting the capital needs of our growing organization for the second year in a row. and to all the individual donors who continue to support us directly and through the United Way.

2007: Thank you so much to the Microsoft Golf Classic for Autism for their very generous donation for the third consecutive year. Thanks also to the Community Foundation of Ottawa-Carleton and Project Clear Skies for providing their funding. We'd also like to thank the many individual donors for their contributions provided through the United Way campaign and through the Government of Canada workplace campaign that happens every fall.
